Overview

This is our signature excursion combining snorkeling one of the best reefs in the Huatulco National Park with offshore encounters with dolphins, sea turtles and *whales. *Humpback whales are seen mid December through mid April. Oceanico is the only group of bi-lingual marine biologists that are studying the dolphins and whales of Huatulco. Our boat was built in 2022 for ocean adventures with a deep V hull, 140hp engine, bathroom, observation tower, cushioned bench seating and canvas roof. There is an underwater microphone to find and listen to the dolphins and *whales. Our unique approach ensures the most sightings in Huatulco and increases the amount of information we collect for research and conservation. Our knowledgeable guides share their insights offering you an in depth look into the lives of the *whales, dolphins, sea turtles and reefs. When you join our tours you are supporting research and directly contributing to conservation.

Meeting points

We meet ten minutes before departure at the palapa hut at the dock entrance to the Chahué Marina. There are bathrooms with showers for our guests to use before and after the tours.

Itinerary

Enjoy exploring Huatulco's ocean paradise on our signature excursion for up to 8 guests with our marine biologist crew. Our eco adventures combine snorkeling one of the best reefs in the Huatulco National park with exploring offshore to see dolphins, sea turtles and *whales (*Humpback whales are seen mid December through mid April). As we depart our guides give a briefing about the marine species we often encounter. First we cruise offshore to the best areas to find dolphins, sea turtles & *whales. Our guides share insights into the lives of the dolphins, sea turtles, *whales and other species we encounter as we collect data for our research. Then we cruise back to the coast to navigate through some of the beautiful bays of the Huatulco National Park and stop to snorkel one of the best reefs. After an amazing half day exploring both the oceanic and coral reef ecosystems we return to the Chahué marina where you can shower and we can arrange a taxi for you.

This is the best value for your money in Huatulco. It is a 4 hour boat ride for whale watching and snorkeling. The marine biologist on board, Tony was not only knowledgeable but kind and friendly. Another marine biologist is atop the lighthouse looking for whales to direct our boat driver Andreas, who was very competent seaman and thoughtful with customers.The first two hours of the ride are spent spotting whales, dolphins, sea turtles and black tuna far out in the sea. Then we went to a secluded calm cove to do easy snorkeling. Both gentlemen helped us with getting in and out of the boat and watched for our safety at all times. They provided water, apples and power bars. On the way back we motored along the coast viewing several beaches and the incredible rock formations. At the end they made sure we had taxis waiting. I am sure all eight passengers enjoyed their wonderful day along the Huatulco National reserve.

Best Tour We’ve Ever Been On

Best day ever! This was our favorite tour that we’ve ever been on. Peter was our guide with Antonio as his assistant. Both are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We saw four Humpback whales, sea turtles, a large pod of dolphins jumping out of the water, sting rays launching themselves out of the water and even sea snakes. Peter took drone footage and photographs that he shared with us for free. Peter communicated with me over WhatsApp, so it’s helpful to have this app already. Our captain was a very safe driver. We snorkeled in one spot and it was fantastic. Peter gave me helpful hints for getting in and out of the water over the side of the boat. Antonio was in the water with us the whole time. This is a do-not-miss tour. Recommend booking through Trip Advisor.

We had an amazing time with Peter and Tony! They were very knowledgeable. We followed a group of about 100 dolphins, saw 4 humpbacks, tons of turtles, back flipping manta rays, and more! Peter and Tony gave us some amazing photos and drone footage after the trip as well. The snorkelling was great as well. We went to a beach but since the conditions weren’t great at that beach, the crew took us to a different one so that we could still snorkel. No complaints!! Had an unforgettable time.
