Take a walking tour with a historian, not just a “tour guide”

Published on Jan, 2025

I could not have picked a better tour to meet and exceed our expectations of a historical walking tour of Savannah. I’m actually quite smug to be completely honest, but perhaps a bit of serendipity, and our guide, Sarah, exceeded the “guide” expectations further as she is a genuine historian and really understood the brief. As well, we were lucky enough to have more or less booked a private tour as no other individuals were present but my husband and me (and guide, Sarah of course). We really learned a lot about how Savannah came to be as a major port city and its relationship to the Revolutionary and Civil Wars of the US, not to mention Antebellum. As well, Sarah was very knowledgeable in the architecture realm and explaining about structures we passed and stood in front of throughout the tour. She was more than happy to engage further in conversation about any topic - including a bit about paranormal as seems very popular in Savannah - and a bit of pop culture (think: famous movies and books staged in Savannah). There was so much to learn and take with us into the rest of our visit to Savannah. Delighted to have found this very perfect historical tour of Savannah. Thanks a million, Sarah!

Sights and Insights

Published on Oct, 2024

Our guide, Sarah, made everyone comfortable, which led to a lot of questions and the additional detail where the group''s interest led. She provided an broad overview of the layout of the old city and covered key historical events in the founding and later development of the town. It was nuanced without being preachy, instructive without being pedantic, and colorful without being melodramatic it had a good mix of general fact intermixed with biographical viewpoints famous figures and the everyday people who made life in the city possible. We walked a bit over 1.5 miles on flat terrain and saw cemeteries, mansions, dueling grounds, monuments, and a number of historic homes and buildings. Highly recommended!

Very good guide
