Overview

As a photographer and Tour Guide based in Hermanus for approximately 15 years, I am passionate about the Whales, Birds & Nature. There are seabirds, shorebirds, coastal scrub birds, water birds and mountain fynbos to experience within the Overberg. You don't need to be an avid birder, beginners & nature lovers are left thoroughly impressed by the splendour of our area, and I often have guests return for a second tour because there is simply too much to take in all in one trip. I look forward to meeting you, sharing stories and finding those birds you're searching for.

I can collect the clients from their accommodation, if their accommodation is within a radius of 5km's of the centre of Hermanus Village, alternatively we can discuss a convenient meeting point. Bird tours generally begin early in the morning, even instances of meeting and departing Hermanus before sunset during the ... The Whale Museum is located centrally in the Village of Hermanus and has clear signage outside. Google Maps will easily guide the guests to the building. Alternatively I can meet at the guests at their accommodation since Bird tours begin early in the morning.

Birding in and around Hermanus offers all levels of birders opportunities to thoroughly enjoy the prolific birdlife & nature we are blessed to have be surrounded by in the Overberg. The Bird tours are either 3 hours or half day. Duration : 3 hours @ R1200 pp - Minimum 2 people Duration : half day @ R2000 pp - minimum 2 people // single rate R2500

Bird with a birder

I booked a morning birding tour with Dave. Nikki, who managed the bookings, was excellent and responds instantly to queries and questions. I mentioned that I had dipped on the Cape Rockjumper on previous locations. Dave took a detour and it was my first bird of the day. What a cracking bird?!! Dave is passionate about birds and whales, and generously shares his knowledge with enthusiasm. He has many birding stories and knows the art of storytelling. After a long morning birding, we spent the afternoon whale watching. It was a wonderful day, thanks to Dave and Nikki.

The bird watching trip with Dave de Beer was a highlight of our two week trip to South Africa. His knowledge of the landscape, places, and birds was exceptional. The route we went showed us lots of different habitats and species. We were also lucky enough to see a whale from the shore. Such a delight to meet someone who is so passionate about the environment.
