Overview

In this tour, we will learn more about the political history of Nara and Japan. The Japanese emperors lived from 710 to 774 at Heijo Palace, the imperial palace in Nara. This visit is an opportunity for us to visit a place off the beaten track and far from the crowds! You will learn more about the History of Japan, with your guide, passionate or even a graduate of Japanese History, who will explain to you the ins and outs of Japanese politics of yesteryear. You will have a good lesson in history and exciting architecture in perspective, unique to Nara!

What To Expect

1. Fukugen Kentoshi Ship Here we have a replica of the boat of the Japanese ambassy to China in 702. We will learn more about the beginning of international relations between Japan and China. 30 minutes

2. Heijokyu Izanaikan Museum This museum teaches us more about the Nara period, the 8th century in Japan and the development of Japanese culture, with international influences. 30 minutes

3. Suzakumon Gate This gate leads to the Nara Imperial Palace. We pass it as thousands of Japanese people in the 8th century were able to do. A real time travel! 30 minutes

4. Information Center for Reconstruction Project of the Former Imperial Audience Hall Compound This museum will explain to us the archaeological excavations on the former Nara imperial palace. How did they take place? What is their results? This is what we will find out. 30 minutes

5. Heijo Palace Museum This museum focuses on Nara Imperial Palace. It will show us reconstitutions and talk to us about customs and politics in the 8th century. 30 minutes

6. Former Imperial Audience Hall Here we have a reconstruction of the ancient imperial palace of Nara, dating from the 8th century. We can see the imperial throne and admire the majesty of the place. 30 minutes

7. Nara Palace Site Museum This museum exhibits the excavations of the surrounding area, talks about Japanese life and architecture in the 8th century. We will know more about Japanese life during that time. 30 minutes

8. East Palaca Garden This Japanese Garden is located inside Heijo Imperial Palace. This will be our last stop to enjoy a little greenery before leaving the place. 30 minutes
