Overview

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the compelling history of African Americans from slavery to freedom during the Antebellum era (1748-1864) along Savannah's stunning coast, guided by the renowned Master Gullah Geechee storyteller, "Sistah Patt." Board our comfortable Gray Line vehicle for a captivating tour of Savannah's iconic landmarks, including River Street, Factor's Walk, and Johnson Square. Delve into the rich history of West African tribes forced into slavery in Savannah, who labored to build the warehouses along River Street. Learn about their struggle for freedom and how their cultural legacy continues to influence the local community today. This fully narrated bus tour begins at 10:30 a.m. and lasts approximately one hour. We will then stop at The Historic Second African Baptist Church where you will savor authentic Gullah Geechee foodways and storytelling. Afterward, we’ll return you to the tour’s starting point.

    Your 1 hour riding tour begins along River Street. Learn about the history of the West African tribes that were routed to Savannah and used in slave labor to build the warehouses along River Street.

  • Johnson Square (Pass By)

    See where slaves were auctioned off in Johnson Square.

  • Second African Baptist Church (Pass By)

    Enjoy a short tour inside and authentic Gullah Geechee food.

The whole experience was amazing!! Sister Pat shared a ton of history that I had never even heard of and the meal that was prepared with love for our group was the most amazing meal that I have eaten in a long time!! I loved the Gullah Geechee story telling after lunch and the setting of It all was so awe inspiring that took me back in history to a time of love and respect for everyone. I highly recommend this tour if you are looking for Savannah history and the most memorable meal of your stay!

Such a rich history about the FULL HISTORY of Savannah. Ms. Pat gave us a wonderfully informative narration that was inspiring. When history is told and your given info on where to verify it, that is a RARE GEM of a tour. We cannot tell anyone's story partially in order to understand it. Loved the Atmosphere and the food. So worth it!
