Overview

Meet your private driver at Skala port to start on a private shore excursion, exploring Patmos's most popular scenic sites. Our first stop is the “Holy Cave of the Apocalypse,” followed by a visit to the Chora windmills dating back to 1588, offering an opportunity for memorable photos.     Meet your private driver at Skala port, to start a wonderful shore excursion to the most popular Christian sites.

  • Cave of Apocalypse

    We begin with a visit to the Grotto of St. John, where the Book of Revelation was born. In 95 AD, during Christian persecution, St. John found refuge on Patmos, hearing the voice of God, glimpsing the future, and penning the Revelation

  • Monastery of St. John

    Through a labyrinth of atmospheric lanes winding their way to the foot of the Monastery of St. John the Theologian built in the 11th century. Here one can get a glimpse of monastic life and absorb timeless history through the magnificent ecclesiastical artifacts of its museum. Among the Monastery's treasures are frescoes of the founder Christodoulos and miracles of St. John, ancient documents dating from the 6th century, vestments, silverware and numerous icons including a work attributed to El Greco.

  • Chora Patmos

    From the Monastery we walk through the winding cobbled streets of Chora. Stroll through the winding streets of Patmos, where houses dating back to the 16th century are linked by a maze of steps and lanes interspersed with small squares, snow-white chapels and the flowered courtyards

  • Windmills of Patmos

    Capture memories at the Chora windmills, dating back to 1588. Perched atop a hill with sea views, these windmills, named Mili, are a jewel of the island, honored by Europa Nostra

  • Grikos Beach

    Pass by Grikos Bay for a view of its pristine natural scenery. Reach the Bay of Lambi, where colorful stones on the beach offer a small keepsake. Visit "Paralia Kampos," one of Patmos's most beautiful beaches.

Great tour guide highly recommend. Hit all the sites. She lives on island so very knowledgeable and knows everyone!

Need To Include a Tour Guide

This is a difficult review to write. The tour calls for an English speaking driver. Our driver was not fluent in English. This forced us to hire a private tour guide at an extra cost and this is the only good part of the tour. Theologia was fantastic. She grsw up on the island and had vast knowledge of the local traditions and the monastery. She walked us through the monastery's museum and pointed out items that most people would not notice. If you book this tour, you need to include a tour guide.
