Overview

Step aboard the Grand Canyon Railway for a trip to the majestic Grand Canyon you'll never forget. Feel the rumble of a vintage train as the engine chugs 65-miles (approximately 105 km) across the beautiful Northern Arizona countryside. The train offers kaleidoscopic views of the San Francisco Peaks and rolls through valleys adorned in wild flowers, dense pine forests, high desert plains and small canyons.

Itinerary

This exciting and scenic ride begins at the historic 1908 Williams Depot where you will be entertained by a Wild West shootout featuring the Cataract Creek Gang in an outdoor theater. Shop in one of two gift shops, or enjoy a hearty buffet breakfast (not included) before departure at the Grand Depot Cafe next to the depot. Then, hear the train whistle pierce the fresh morning air, beckoning passengers for a trip on the old iron horse to the Grand Canyon. Uniformed coach attendants provide you with white-gloved courtesy and service. Aboard the train, enjoy the tunes of strolling musicians who conduct sing-a-longs, an Old West train robbery, and the antics of western characters as they recreate train travel as it was back in 1901. This train will arrive into the historic 1910 Grand Canyon Depot, the only remaining log depot still in operation in the United States. Buildings like the El Tovar Hotel, Hopi House and Bright Angel Lodge salute arriving guests as you pull into the station and disembark from the train. Choose between coach class seating which are streamline era coaches built in the 1950's and are air-conditioned and heated in the cooler months. Soft drinks and bottled water are available for purchase on board. Upgrade to first class and enjoy the opulence of oversized, reclining seats with extra-large viewing windows and at-seat cocktail service (no host bar) aboard First Class. Cars are air-conditioned and you can help yourself to complimentary morning refreshments of fresh fruits, pastries, juices, teas and coffee. Enjoy snacks from the buffet on the afternoon trip. Please note: adult prices include a USD15 National Park Fee.

Grand Canyon via Train

This was such an incredible experience. We had a party of 9, including 3 children. We opted for the First Class tickets and are sure glad we did. We sat in the Kokopelli car and loved it. Some of our seats were facing eachother which was great for the kids. We loved the food that was included for breakfast it includes pastries, fruit, coffee, hot water for tea or cocoa and soft drinks. For the afternoon ride back it included meat and cheese, veggies and dip and pretzel balls with the same drink options. We also enjoyed being able to purchase cocktails. Johnny our attendant was very attentive and also quite funny. Highly recommend him. The entertainment on the train was great. The various singers were quite funny and the act at the end was a neat way to end the ride. Loved visiting the Grand Canyon for the day and highly recommend this way of getting there.

It was a great trip! The train ride was relaxing & enjoyable. Enjoyed having the entertainment on the train & seeing the mule & pronghorn deer as we rode through the different towns was a treat.

We decided to see the Grand Canyon for the first time on New Years Eve 2024, after spending Christmas in the Smokies. We booked the coach car on the Grand Canyon Railway, and we're very excited to ride the train to the park. On a very cold December morning, we drank hot chocolate and watched an early morning cowboy shootout skit. It was funny, but we all just wanted to get on the heated train. During the very relaxing ride, we felt fortunate to have Maryellen as our guide. Her 35 years of experience was great as there was nothing she didn't know. Both to and from, we enjoyed the musicians playing old familiar songs and were even victims and an old west train robbery. The adventure was well worth the expense. I’ve been to the Grand Canyon before, but never took the train from Williams. It was an amazing experience! We did the First Class car- and I think worth the little bit extra for the comfortable seating and service. Some food and drink is complimentary and you may also purchase an adult beverage. We also did the overnight package at the National Park lodge as well, I would highly recommend that too. Getting to see the sunset and the sunrise on the Canyon was magnificent!

What an amazing experience! From the staff on the cars, to the entertainers, to the train robbery, we laughed up and back! The Grand bus tour and lunch at Maswik Lodge was fantastic! We were in awe of the beautiful scenery and the journey was very pleasant and enjoyable. Would definitely do this again!
