Overview

A stunning day tour from Glasgow that takes us to locations from movies such as Skyfall, Highlander and Harry Potter. We’ll travel to Glencoe and the ‘Road to the Isles’, from Fort William to Glenfinnan. Watch the Jacobite Steam Train as it crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct (Apr- Oct), a Scottish icon that’s famous for its classic Victorian engineering. It's also known as the ‘Harry Potter bridge’ that takes the boy wizard to Hogwarts

Itinerary

  • Tarbet

    Tarbet is on the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Not only will we stop here for morning refreshments, but to enjoy some wonderful views of Loch Lomond. Ben Lomond, Scotland’s most southerly Munro, (mountains over 3000 feet high) can also be viewed from here.

  • Glencoe

    Glencoe was the setting to one of the most infamous periods in Scottish history, the Glencoe massacre which took place in 1692. The beautiful scenery is a visitors must see. We stop at Glencoe Visitor Centre to allow time to learn more about the history of the glen. The centre is also home to the turf house where you‘ll be able to see what life must have been like for the 500-600 strong community that lived here in 17th century Glencoe. We travel through the glen twice (morning and evening) and stop for photos and to take in the landscape while we are there.

  • Fort William (Pass By)

    In the shadows of Ben Nevis lies the holiday town of Fort William. We travel through the town in the morning to join the romantic 'Road to the Isles'

  • Glenfinnan Viaduct

    We have plenty of time to visit Glenfinnan as the views here are simply spectacular. You will see the 21 arches of the majestic Glenfinnan Viaduct curve through the glen in a scene immortalised as the route to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts (from April 2- Oct we aim to reach the viaduct in time to see the Jacobite Steam Train crossing over). The Glenfinnan Monument lies at the head of Loch Shiel and was erected in 1815, to honour the Jacobites who fought and died in the cause of Bonnie Prince Charlie. There will also be time to pay entrance to visit the monument if you wish.

  • Ardlui

    After travelling back through Glencoe & Rannoch moor, our last stop of the evening will be within the heart of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, where you can enjoy an early evening refreshment before our return to Glasgow.

Great Tour and Company!

Best tour company I had on my trip to Scotland. Billy with Discover Scotland was fantastic! The bus was immaculate and spacious unlike others I’ve had. The tour itself was well planned out and very scenic. Highly recommend.

Wonderful tour! Excellent knowledgable and funny guide. Highly recommend! Despite the rainy weather, we really enjoyed the experience and learned a great deal.

Bring cash!

We had an excellent time on this tour. First though, a tip: Bring cash! We only had a card and the machines weren't working at our first refreshment stop so, no tea for us. Stuart was very kind and actually added a quick stop at a place with a cash machine. We were super grateful because it meant we would be able to get lunch even if the machines were down at the lunch stop! We should know better and we appreciated that Stuart didn't make us feel any more stupid than we already felt! Because the train wasn't running yet, Stuart took us to a couple of extra places to take pictures and enjoy the truly breathtaking scenery. A friend asked me if one of my photos was real. That's how amazing Glencoe and the rest of the area is to photograph and enjoy. We loved every minute of this tour from the commentary to the scenery. It was the highlight of our, already fabulous, trip. Thanks so much to Stuart.

A good way to see the Scottish Highlands

We went on the one-day small coach tour from Edinburgh. The coach was comfortable. The stops along the route to Glenfinnan Viaduct were well-spaced, scenic, and historic. Stuart Sawer was our driver and guide. Stuart is very knowledgeable. His narrations brought the scenes to life, and his personal experinces as a mountain hiker added insight. Our only (minor) complaint is that the the route back from Glenfinnan is too long between stops and less scenic/historic. It is only saved by an extended visit to the hairy cow farm. If you are visiting Scotland and staying in Edinburgh or Glascow, getting out of the city and seeing the Scottish Highlands is a must. This is an easy, inexpensive (under 70 pounds for seniors) way to do it in a day.

Great time to Glenfynnan

It was a beautiful adventure visiting that part of Scotland, despite it’s a long way, we enjoyed it. Our tour leader, Billy, a nice guy, made a few stops to make photos and grab a coffee. We had a really good time!!
