Freedom Whale Watching spends more time with the whales. So make a day of it and reward yourself with this premium whale watching tour. There is plenty of time to witness close encounters and stunning behaviours of the majestic humpback whales whilst in the shelter of K'Gari(formerly Fraser Island). Dolphins, turtles and other marine creatures are often encountered as well. Maximum 49 passengers, includes delicious morning and afternoon tea, and buffet lunch. Arrive at the boat by 9.10am. Freedom is on Berth 4A at the Great Sandy Straits Marina (GSS). Walk through the Marina building (where the shops are) and turn right to find the boat ramp. It is near Cafe Baleana. The car park is between the Mantra and Breakfree Resorts.

Itinerary

Board Freedom at 9.10am, ready for departure at 9.30am. The relaxed and scenic tour departs from Berth 4A at the Great Sandy Straits Marina in Urangan Harbour. Onboard our comfortableful, 58ft catamaran, we pass Round Island, the Urangan Jetty and Big Woody Island and then head towards Platypus Bay where the whales will be sighted! The tour usually follows much of the Western Beaches of K'gari. It may be possible to witness many different whale behaviours, and, because we have all day, we can spend more time with the whales, witnessing them express their natural behaviours and often approaching the boat to check us out as we wave and call them in to us! Other marine animals, such as dolphins, turtles and sea birds may be observed as well. Guests will be offered morning tea, buffet lunch and afternoon tea during the tour. Free tea, coffe and water is available all day and other soft drinks or alcohol can be purchased on board as well. With three viewing platforms plus water level, you will have 360 degree views. We have a comfortable saloon, three toilets and a wonderful, friendly crew to look after you while you have the experience of a lifetime!

Awesome whale watching trip on Freedom 3

Toni and crew were excellent! Toni even communicates with the teenage humpback. It is definitely an awesome and memorable trip for us. We will be back with Freedom 3 next time.

We went whale watching on the Gold Coast and in Alaska previously and were disappointed that we only saw a few whales in the distance. This tour was completely different. We had a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable captain. She was very tuned in to the behaviour of the whales and was careful to shut the engine off so that the animals were not disturbed. This also allowed the whales to come over to the boat to have a look if they wanted to. We could hear the whales calling to each other and moving about in the water. We saw adults and juveniles, many whales that were breaching and fluking. The boat was small enough so that it could be maneuvered easily to get a good view of what was happening. It was good that the tour is 3/4 of a day so that if it is quiet in the morning you have the afternoon to catch the action. The captain was in radio contact with the other whale watching boats so that if something interesting was happening we were able to get to the spot very quickly. We were treated to delicious food - morning and afternoon teas and lunch, by very friendly, helpful staff. On the way back we passed by Fraser Island to see the coloured sands. We would like to come back next year. This tour is great value for money.

Absolutely loved it . If you’re ever in Hervey Bay this experience is not to be missed . The crew did a great job sharing information about the marine ecology of humpback whales and other denisons of K’gari . Food and catering are on par with land based fancy restaurants . I cannot believe what good value this trip is.
