We visited as a family of four adults at the end of October, joining a small group of 8 people in total. We were very fortunate with the weather that dayāit was beautiful. The unusually warm summer delayed the turning of the autumn leaves, which worked out nicely for us. This tour was the only one at the time that included both the Shinhotaka Ropeway and Kamikochi (since we couldnāt decide between the two).
Our favorite part of the tour was walking through Kamikochi. The views were absolutely stunning, and weād happily do that walk again. It was an easy trail and thanks to the driver meant it was one-way for us, which gave us plenty of time for pictures, souvenir shopping, and/or a relaxing afternoon tea break at the end. The ropeway was great too! A very convenient way to take in the surroundings with a big observation deck at the very top. There are many hiking options here from beginners to experienced hikers. The company also offer dedicated hiking tours in Shinhotaka, which we would have loved to try if weād had more time.
The tour itself was run very efficiently, and our guide, Hemi was fun, friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed chatting with him about life in Japan. Thank you, Hemi, for navigating the queues and helping us take great pictures!
Snow Monkey Resorts went above and beyond to assist us with our travel plans. Instead of returning to Takayama, we continued on to Matsumoto via public transport. Thank you, David, for making that process so smooth and offering such a flexible option.
