Overview

This is a Kamakura private tour using by public transportation. Kamakura is called ā€œthe Kyoto of Eastern Japanā€, because it used to be the capital of Japan from 12th to 14th century. Itā€™s the first government by the Shogun, a top of samurai warriors. Kamakura offers numerous temples, shrines and other historical monuments. In this tour, we will visit three famous temples and one shrine. See inclusions and excursions for what is included in the price of this tour.

Itinerary

  • Kotoku-in (Great Buddha of Kamakura)

    This temple was built in 13th century and this Buddha is the landmark of Kamakura. (Entrance fee:300 JPY)

  • Hase-dera Temple

    This temple was built in 8th century and it has a nice Japanese garden, statues of Buddha, view of the Pacific Ocean and a unique cave shrine. In June and July, hydrangea is so beautiful. (Entrance fee:400 JPY)

  • Hokokuji Temple (Takedera Temple)

    This temple was built in 14th century and has a beautiful bamboo forest. This temple is something different from other temples in Kamakura ( Entrance fee : 400 JPN).

  • Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

    This shrine was the official guardian shrine of the Kamakura shogunate and worshiped by warriors as deity of the military.

Beautiful and Historic Kamakura Tour

My family and I had a great time on this tour! The Kamakura bus system can be confusing to foreigners and Kono-San did a great job of navigating us through the best parts! He also had great insights into history of the area and Japan overall. We learned a lot! Arigatōgozaimasu! I will note that this is a walking/bus tour so bring comfortable shoes and enough cash for the buses and metro.

A private tour of Kamakura with a professional guide as Akira provided an enriching and detailed experience of this historic city. Akira pickup us at the hotel in Tokyo and helped us navigate to Kamakura and the sights smmothely. He possed deep knowledge of Kamakuraā€™s history, culture and landmark. Akira offered insights into the significance of sites like the Great Buddhaā€™s.

A Great Tour of Kamakura by Yumi

Our tour guide, Yumi, did a fantastic job showing us around Kamakura and the various shrines and temples in the area. She was knowledgeable about the history of Japan, how the emperors and shogun shaped the culture of Japan, and any questions we had. Plus she gave a great recommendation for noodles for lunch. Thank you!

Yumiko was the most charming, helpful and knowledgeable guide. We really enjoyed our day with her and would highly recommend this tour to everyone. If you want a day trip from Tokyo - this is one to do and request Yumiko. I believe she also does tours in Tokyo city.
