Today, I took a ship tour around Lake Argentino that began at Los Glaciares National Park. We stopped at five glaciers: Upsala, Spegazzini, Perito Moreno, Heim, and Seco. I also walked through a natural preserve for “feral”cows.
I paid for a VIP experience with a four-course meal, a private indoor and outdoor area patio and an open bar. They served us whiskey shots that they said were served over glacier ice.
The guides said that, despite its appearance, the ice in the glaciers is not really blue, but rather that the color comes from the refraction of light. I think they said that the bright blue water in the ocean is from mineral particles from the mountains, the depth of the water, and the refraction of light. Regardless how it happens, the bright blue color is stunning.
I have seen glaciers before, but not this many or this large. I have never seen icebergs before, so that was especially cool.
