Overview

The Bike Tour takes people to get to know the way of life of the locals, the way they occupy the city. The circuit lasts approximately six hours and has numerous stops for explanations, photos and contemplation. This route will visit the same route as the Monumental Axis, plus the Unity Neighborhood route. It is a complete tour of a large urban area of the city. LĂşcio's four Scales are the Monumental, Gregarious, Residential, and Bucolic. We will go through them, realizing the characteristics and differences between each of the urban configurations, and the importance that this modernist project has for the history of architecture and urbanism in the world. In this circuit, optionally, we have a change in the mode of transport - we take the subway with the bicycles. By bicycle we cover circuits impossible for other vehicles and the perspective of the city is completely different

In the decision, the award judging committee detailed that the project “stands out for its functionality and, above all, for the merit of initiating a process of improving the urban quality of the area in question.” It's worth checking out - the renovation of the place was inaugurated in October 2021 by the Government of the Federal District and allowed the multifunctionality for the practice of skateboarding, presentation of shows and the organization of areas for kiosks.

The Setor Comercial Sul region is central to Brasília. During the weekdays, it is one of the main pedestrian flows in the city due to the services and institutions that are installed there. The proximity to the bus station and Esplanada dos Ministérios also reinforce this flow. This, added to other factors, imposes a genuine cultural diversity. In recent years, some public places have undergone a process of revitalization and there are some buildings by important architects such as Lelé and Oscar Niemeyer. The South Commercial Sector reflects the dynamics of the Gregária Scale and with the new uses that have been given to the spaces, it stands out - "If it were another Brazil, another Brasilia, another time, the South Commercial Sector would be the Champs Élysées that so inspired Lúcio Costa or La Rambla or any other European urban area with intense collective interaction. It's all there, ready to be used, used." (Conceição de Freitas - writer).

The buildings adopt a rationalized construction system that facilitates the distribution of installations and the flexibility of the internal areas. In the main building, the facades are marked by the vierendeel beams that, together with the advances and setbacks of the floors, create terraces-gardens with double height ceilings integrated into the internment areas. João da Gama Filgueiras Lima (Lelé) [1932 -2014] was born in Rio de Janeiro and graduated from UFRJ in 1955. He worked with O. Niemeyer and L. Costa. He was a professor at UnB. Its architecture is marked by the attention to construction methods, the detailing of the projects, and a rationalization of the work.

A great experience and a brilliant way to see the city

Published on Jan, 2025

I had a great tour of Brasilia which was the double version of their popular tours. I saw a huge amount of the city and the ride took in a large section of the park and a ride on (sparkling clean) Metro too. Almost all of the ride was on segregated bike lanes or away from the road so it felt too. I also learnt a lot about the city and highly reommend this tour to understand more about the capital and how it took shape

Nice tour throw Brasilia!

Larissa was a very nice tourguide and the tour was nice too. The bikes could be better in shape, for that the tourprice is a but to much.

The Best Way to Experience Brasilia!

Published on Jan, 2023

The full-day "4 Scales" bike tour with Mauricio was a highlight of the 10 day trip to Brazil I took with my college-age son. Brasilia occupies a special place in the political, cultural and social history of the world, and it is a true gift to be able to see the city with a smart person who can speak to all of these topics with depth and insight that goes beyond the guidebooks. The scale of Brasilia makes it ideally suited for biking and it would not be easy to cover so much ground any other way. Camelo's bikes are comfortable and well maintained so the tour is suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities.

The guide was very informative. Definitely saw more than would have with a bus or car tour. Absolutely recommend and would visit again.

Terrific bike tour of BrasĂlia

Published on Sep, 2022

I was delighted by the tour of BrasĂlia with Camelo Bike Tours. MaurĂcio was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable. I learned a lot about the history of the city and the logic of its architectural and urban design. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough!
