Overview

THIS IS BIG - Designed for visitors that need to see the most of the Black Hills as possible in one day! This is a comprehensive tour of the southern Black Hills with stops at the two famous monuments: Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. And also included is a Wildlife Safari tour to all of Custer State Park (the largest state park in the nation). We make stops at the Visitor Center and the State Game Lodge and then tour along the Wildlife Loop (bison), Needles Highway, Iron Mtn Road, Sylvan Lake and stop at Stockade Lake for a picnic lunch (included).

Itinerary

  • Iron Mountain Road

Iron Mountain Road is an incredible unforgettable experience. It is the most unusual and captivating road in America. Everyone that has experienced this 17 mile stretch in the Black Hills leaves you in awe . . . the beautiful mountain views, the famous one way tunnels and the unusual pigtail bridges. This road was designed for all to slow down, to see and feel things that you don’t experience every day.

    30 minutes

  • Mount Rushmore National Memorial

We guide you through the Memorial, explaining the history and suggest locations for best photo ops. Because of the length of the tour day we are limited to 1 hour here. If you are interested in a longer time to explore, I suggest our Monuments Combo Tour. That tour includes Crazy Horse and Mt Rushmore only . . . 2 hours at each.

    1 hour 15 minutes

  • Sylvan Lake

Sylvan Lake is probably the most recognizable of the five Custer State Park lakes, and of any of the Black Hills lakes for that matter. Its definitely a favorite of almost anyone who has seen it, especially photographers, artists or anyone that saw the Nicolas Cage movie "National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets"

    10 minutes

  • Needle Eye Tunnel

The most 'interesting' of the many one way tunnels . . . this tunnel is just wide enough for vans and cars . . . but not wide enough for bus's and RV's. With us - just sit back and enjoy the fantastic view as we drive the tunnel.

    10 minutes

  • Stockade Lake

Stockade Lake is the largest of Custer State Park's five lakes. Its the most tranquil and serene and a place we stop for a lakeside picnic.

    20 minutes

  • Wildlife Loop Road

We have a slow drive along the 18 mile road. Stopping for photo ops of buffalo and other wildlife (elk, deer, antelope, coyotes, prairie dogs, etc.). We stop, you stand and get great views and photos.

    1 hour

  • Custer State Park Visitor Center

Huge dioramas of the Buffalo and other wildlife visible throughout the park including a map narrated by a ranger where the latest locations of the wildlife. Lots of exhibits that you can touch and feel.

    15 minutes

  • Crazy Horse Memorial

We will stop and explore this huge Native American Memorial with over 14,000 exhibits. Also we visit a wonderful 20 minute movie about the memorial, why it is being built and the problems uncounted competing it.

Best tour ever!

Published on Jan, 2025

This might look expensive but well worth every cent! Mike and Will (the jeep) were amazing! So accomodating and so much information. Even though this was one day I feel like we had days of sight seeing packed in but never felt rushed or over welded! Thank you so much! Best day of our 3 week holiday!

Great tour!

We enjoyed every minute of this tour! Our guide, Mike, was very knowledgeable and gave us the history of all the places we visited. He was friendly and personable and made our tour awesome!

Go with a guide! It makes all the difference.

We spent a wonderful day with our tour guide, Charlie. He did all the driving so we could enjoy the scenery and listen to Charlie as he described the geology and the history of all we were seeing. He filled us with facts and fun stories that helped us to understand and appreciate what we were looking at. He was very kind about finding rest stops along the way and we enjoyed a good lunch together. Charlie obviously loves his job and is incredibly informative. Let Charlie introduce you to this beautiful part of the world that includes two unforgetable monuments. You'll be glad you did.
