Overview

The Ellora Caves are an impressive complex of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain cave temples built between the 6th and 10th centuries AD near the ancient Indian village of Ellora. The caves have a slightly less dramatic setting than those at Ajanta, but more exquisite sculptures. Ellora is a World Heritage Site and the most visited ancient monument in Maharashtra State.

    Ellora (also known as Elura and, in ancient times, as Elapura) is a sacred site in Maharastra, central India. The Ellora Caves are listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site and is celebrated for its Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain temples and monuments which were carved from the local cliff rock in the 6th to 8th century CE. The most spectacular example is the 8th century CE Kailasa temple which, at 32 meters high, is the largest rock-cut monument in the world.

  • Daulatabad Fort

    Impregnable fort of medieval Deccan Daulatabad fort was one of the most powerful forts of the medieval Deccan. The defense system that made Daulatabad virtually impregnable comprises fortifications with double and even triple rows of massive walls. In addition, there are ingeniously built mazes with a complex arrangement of entryways and deep rock-cut moats and trenches which can be crossed only at one point, over a drawbridge. The defense mechanism of rock-cut subterranean passage is unbelievable.

  • Bibi Ka Maqbara

    The Bibi-Ka-Maqbara is also known as "The Taj of Deccan", It is dedicated to Rabia-ul-Daurani alias Dilras Banu Begum, the wife of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb's son, Prince Azam Shah built the mausoleum between 1651 AD and 1661 AD in the memory of his mother Begum Rabia Durani. This mausoleum is a replica of the world-famous Taj Mahal. Also known as Mini Taj, the mausoleum is far less ornamental than the Taj Mahal in Agra.

    The Valley of Saints is located in Khuldabad, a town in the Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Several Sufi saints of the Chishti Order chose to reside in Khuldabad in the fourteenth century. The dargah of Muntajib al-Din, and the tomb of the last great Mughal emperor Aurangzeb are located here.

Excellent service provided. Driver was very knowledgeable explained everything about what we could expect from the local vendors as well as what precautions we should be taking as we are visiting. Mr. Sajid Khan, who I think runs JK Tours, made all the arrangements and was very prompt and pleasant in our communications. The price was also competitive, and this company is rated very highly. So it was an each decision. Mr. Muqim (such a nice person) was a very safe and patient driver, well versed with all the routes and helped us optimize our plan to get the most from our time in Aurangabad. We were also able to visit Shirdi! (Our itinerary: Day 1: Daultabad Fort - Ellora - Shirdi. Day 2: Ajanta - Bibi ka Maqbara)
