While you should certainly explore the historical sights of Athens, if you have time, you should take this tour. It is just a quick 2 metro stop ride from Syntagma that brings you to an area where there are few tourists. Our guide, Eva, who was wonderful , took us on a walking tour of an area where you will find hidden night clubs, after hours clubs , open air cinemas , lots of graffiti and mural and some amazing food . You will see locals dining with friends under a tree, having drinks with friends and families with little kids enjoying a local park. We made several food stops, with different food to enjoy at each stop. Amazing pies with phyllo pastry, souvlaki unlike what you will find in the tourist areas and some local dishes that are not served at the restaurants in the central tourist area. And some very locally brewed Athenian beer.
This tour will expose you to the "real" Athens , being enjoyed by locals.
The area was relatively quiet when we started our tour, but was starting to come alive at the end of the tour, as tons of people were streaming out of the metro stop.
We were fortunate, as they had a last minute cancellation , so it was just the two of us and our guide , Eva. Eva was charming and very easy to talk to, sharing bits about the local area and about her very interesting life. It was like taking a nice walk and enjoying some food with a friend.
I highly recommend this tour for anyone who wants to get a glimpse into the life of Athens, as the city is more than monuments and the Acropolis.
