Capela dos Ossos

The Capela dos Ossos de Alcantarilha is located on the south side of the 16th century Parish Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, in the historic center of the beautiful parish of Alcantarilha, in the heart of the Algarve. The Capela dos Ossos also dates back to the 16th century, inserted in the same stylistic line as other chapels of the kind existing in the country, as in Évora, Faro and Lagos. Its interior is practically all covered and ornamented with more than 1500 human bones, with the exception of the sculpture work of the figure of Christ Crucified dating from the 16th century.
