Overview

The Kayak Tour explores the Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard Maritime Heritage Trail, just 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD. Here you find one of Adelaide's "secret spots", it is an area of surprising beauty. The sheltered mangrove lined creeks are home to a fascinating array of marine life, birds and the Port River Dolphins. The Ship's Graveyard is a unique feature of the area with over 20 "wrecks" to view. All this makes for a sensational adventure and kayaking is the most environmentally sensitive way to explore and interact with the dolphins. Small-groups of no more than 8 people make this a personal experience. Perfect for the whole family, enjoy an up close look at the native wildlife and wrecked ships as your guide tells you tales of this mysterious area.

Meeting points

We meet you at Lot 204 Garden Island Road, Gillman for the kayaking tours. This is a public reserve. We are a mobile business and have no office at this location. Look for the Adventure Kayaking vehicles, lots of kayaks/SUP's and happy people!

Itinerary

The Kayak Tour is up to three hours of fun exploring the Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard Maritime Heritage Trail. One of Adelaide's "secret spots" the tour is located just 30 minutes from the Adelaide CBD and is an area of surpassing beauty. The sheltered mangrove lined creeks are home to a fascinating array of marine life, birds and the Port River Dolphins. The Ship's Graveyard is a unique feature of the area with spectacular relics from the past which have been abandoned in the river. All of which make for an amazing adventure, and best of all, kayaking is the most environmentally sensitive way to explore and interact with the dolphins. When the Port River Dolphins come to play it is a memory you will treasure forever. "Paddling with the Dolphins" has been voted one of the top FOUR MUST DO activities in Adelaide!

The best day on the water in a double kayak.

We had an amazing day kayaking around Garden Island and through the mangroves. Being an older couple we had no problems with the double kayak. A nice way to escape our busy lives.

Great fun and value for money

We did the Dolphin Sanctuary and Ships Graveyard Tour with Ollie and Jaz, who looked after us from start to finish, and made sure everyone stayed well hydrated on a very warm morning. The highlight (and most challenging part) was paddling through the mangroves, and we were lucky enough to see 6-7 dolphins, and get in close to the shipwrecks. Excellent value for money, and great fun to do.

Guides Callam and abbey were very knowledgeable and friendly…. Was relaxing time on the water unfortunately no dolphins on the water but we saw one when we were doing all the safety at the start, saw a stingray when we were comming out of the mangroves which was cool

We had a wonderful adventure with guides, Luke and Angus. We one the trifecta, seeing the ship graveyards, 3 dolphins and paddling into the mangrove creek. Learned some interesting facts about mangroves, the dolphins and the two shipwrecks. Well worth going, thoroughly enjoyed.
