Itinerary

  • Nine Holy Cannons

    9 cannons that Hue artisans cast in Gia Long’s second year (1803). Nine cannons are considered as one of the most valuable bronze works of art. The ancient nine cannons were placed at the foot of the Imperial Citadel, at the entrance of the Ngo Mon Gate – the imperial city of Hue. During the reign of King Khai Dinh, they were relocated to their current position.

  • The Noon Gate (Cua Ngo Mon)

    Built in 1833 in the traditional Vietnamese style under the rule of King Minh Mang and used by the Kings for troop movements and ceremonies.

  • The Flag Tower

    An architectural monument of the Nguyen Dynasty located in the middle of the south face of Hue citadel within the Nam Chanh fortress which is also the place to hang the flag of the royal court.

  • Thai Hoa Palace

    This Palace is located in the Imperial City area of ​​Hue citadel, which is the coronation place of 13 Nguyen kings from Gia Long to Bao Dai. In feudal regimes, this palace was considered the center of the country.

  • Nine Dynastic Urns

    These are nine bronze urns, located in front of The Mieu Temple in Hue Imperial Citadel. The Nine Peaks was commissioned by Emperor Minh Mang in the winter of 1835 and inaugurated on March 1, 1837.

    The Mieu also called The To Mieu built in 1821 by Second Kings of the Nguyen Dynasty – Minh Mang. This is a temple to worship 10 Kings of the Nguyen Dynasty.

    The Forbidden Purple City belongs to a complex of the ancient capital of Hue, which is the center of daily life of the Kings, their Queens, Minor Wives and Cocubines of the Nguyen’s Emperors. The Forbidden City is located behind the Thai Hoa palace, was first built by King Gia Long (1804). In the third year of Minh Mang’s reign (1822), the king changed the name into Forbidden Purple City.

    The Huế Museum of Royal Fine Arts is a museum dedicated to Vietnam's imperial past and arts of that era. It is located in the former imperial capital of Huế. By royal decree of 1927, a section for the art of Champa was also instituted.

Tour with Thanh

We did this tour with Thanh. She was very informative and answered all of our questions. The tour was a great pace and it was truly very interesting. The whole site is impressive as is the story about the succession of the different kings. Fascinating! Don’t skip Hue and the Imperial City. It’s worth the stop for sure.

Thanh (female) was our lovely tour guide on a rainy day in Hue imperial City. She took her time to wait for us as we were a bit late due to the rain. Thanks for the patience to the lovely couple in our group as well. Thanh came prepared with rain capes for us. She did a great job during the tour with challenging conditions. But she never missed a smile. We felt good with her speed and her english was very good. Thank you. We hope you didn't catch a cold!

The Imperial walking tour was fantastic! My partner and I had many questions for our guide, Thanh, who was more than happy to answer them! It was very interesting to learn about each king and how the crown was passed on, as well as the various elements and animals you’ll see throughout Vietnamese and Asian culture. Definetly recommend this tour if you’d like something chill but also informative! Thank you to Thanh for your yummy salted coffee suggestion also! We are obsessed!!! :D
