Overview

At Sumatra Orangutan Trekking, we organize unique and unforgettable jungle trekking eco tours that help preserve the Gunung Leuser National Park and its endangered orangutans. But we offer more than just traditional trekking experiences. Our English-speaking guides are certified by the Indonesia Tourist Guides Association (ITGA-HPI Himpunan Pramuwisata Indonesia), and they enjoy sharing their knowledge with you while they help keep the Gunung Leuser National Park clean and safe for both humans and animals! Our day tours and activities make a difference in the local community. When you purchase one of our trekking tours, 10% of the proceeds go to children in Bukit Lawang who can’t afford to go to school and single mothers who struggle financially. This money helps the children attend school and eventually find jobs that will allow them to support themselves and their families.

Itinerary

If you’re up for a jungle adventure, we offer this 3 day jungle trekking, that takes you deeper into the Gunung Leuser National Park, where you can enjoy its unique plants and animals. On this trek, you’ll spend two nights at different campsites in the jungle. Your trekking will end by tubing down the river in our “jungle taxi” back to your hotel. For this trip, you should be physically fit.

The best tour ever in Bukit lawang!

This tour was amazing! Everything was organized so well. Our tour guides Jerry en Noval were the extremely helpful and new a lot about Bukit Lawang. They made sure we had an amazing experience. Also they really care about the nature and animals, treat it with a lot of respect. The cook, Erwin, made us great meals in the middle of the jungle. We had the best adventures ever, the best tour ever! We had so much fun, enjoyed every minute. Would recommend so much. Also they helped us with everything around the tour, like accommodation (which was very nice) and if you need it transfer or pick up from bus station.

I wanted to do a four days trek in low, season and they were the only ones who offered it. Our guides Amri and Roji were super fun guys and very knowledgeable about the jungle. Silent king of the trip was our cook though, who provided rich and delicious meals in the middle of the jungle (I'm still curious how exactly that works..). All in all, I had a great time!

Amazing 3D2N in the Jungle

To get the full experience we spent 2 nights in the Jungle. Our guides provided us with plenty of food as a source of energy. Although the trekking is strenuous due to the temperature and the mountains, the guides adjust the pace to suit us and take enough breaks. During the trek we saw lots of animals such as monkeys, orangutans, a snake and a turtle. In general, the atmosphere was very pleasant. At the end we even got an orangutan carved out of stone as a souvenir made by the guides. We did the trek at the end of October/beginning of November, in the rainy season. It only rained in the afternoon and at night, when we had already arrived at the camp. The advantage is that there are fewer tourists at this time of year. And being in the rain in the rainforest was an experience.

This was a life changing experience! We had the best experience with this tour, would recommend this 100%. The guides were extremely helpful, nice and experienced. They made sure were were always doing fine and were taking so much care of us. They were careful with every details so we enjoyed a lot.
