I expected a walk along the quay with the guide telling stories about how the Titanic sailed from Queenstown and how the Lusitania was torpedoed nearby, but that's not what we got. Instead, we got a fascinating story about Ireland's struggle for independence. We heard more about the sinking of the Aud, a German ship smuggling arms for the 1916 rebellion, than we did about the Titanic. Kieran brought the Irish shanachie's storytelling art to his performance as a tour guide. We roved through the town, stopping here and there while he wove his tales of what ambush happened on this spot, or what happened to the resident of that house who was taken for a collaborator. It really brought the events of over 100 years ago back to life.
