Overview

Rum also known as "rumbullion and kill devil" was invented in Barbados. Therefore Barbados is known as the birthplace of Rum. On this tour we will share with you the story of rum visiting St. Nicholas Abbey a plantation house built in the 17th century. The plantation produces award winning rum and they are always delighted to offer you a sample. You will tour the plantation house, the gardens, rum distillery and take a ride on the heritage railway a restored old steam engine. After a morning of discovery we will stop for lunch before making a brief stop in the scenic costal settlement of Bathsheba before making our way to the Mount Gay visitor centre, where you will learn the history of rum and be taken through a fun-filled tasting session conducted by the Mount Gay Rum Tour guides who will guide you and your taste buds through the signature flavours, aromas and subtle nuances of the various rums the produce.

    St Nicholas Abbey is a Sugar Plantation built in the 17th century. The Plantation grows its own sugar cane, harvest it and produces award winning rum at its distillery. They also have a restored steam engine train ride that is part of your experience when you visit St Nicholas on this tour

    Visit the Mount Gay Visitor Center to learn about the production and history of Barbados' famous Mount Gay rum. On the signature tour, delve into the spirit's history and importance to the island nation; complimentary rum punch and five rum tastings are included.

Great day out

Excellent trip. Picked up at the agreed time by Winston, he was an entertaining and knowledgeable guide. The rum tours were great, the Abbey had an interesting (but difficult history) with a more sedate atmosphere , whereas Mount Gay was more boisterous and fun. Highly recommended trip

Very good and informative trip. Our driver was exceptional and thought us alot about Barbados. We were able to see the sugar cane mill at work and taste some of tge finest rums

History, entertainment, views and rum - a great experience

Well organised and nicely put together tour. Great service from informative and entertaining (& safe) driver Ryan - also didn’t rush us or leave us hanging around. St Nicholas Abbey house fascinating, great train ride and views, and then amazing to see a working distillery so close up with original machinery, and talk to the owners. Very well paired with Mount Gay, for the contrast of a very different operation, with a hugely entertaining guide for the tastings. Good lunch, nice stop at Bathsheba, and interesting to see different aspects of the island on the way. Very glad we didn’t hire a car or try to do it with taxis.

Really enjoyed both St. Nicholas and Mt. Gay. Excellent guides at both. Beautiful views all around. Dunstan, our driver, was great! He's very knowedgeable about tje history, and happy to share what he knows.
