Overview

We are unique in that we offer this beautiful trip into our back yard with history from guides with over 30 years experience on the river and stories from maori elders going back 33 generations (or so). All trips get clients back onto the cruiseships well before departure.

Itinerary

This trip starts from either your ship or in Napier city, then bus one hour into the heart of the north island. Thie activity is a scenic raft trip down grade 2 rapids whilie listening to bird song. Also included is a narrative on the local history of the area going right back 80 million years, through to pre european times with local maori and into the near past and present. This activity is also great for families with children being able to swim down river and drinking the fresh water all in a safe environment. Grade 2 rapids are fun but small so if you dont wish to get to wet dont jump in. Photos of your trip are available either mailed to you or on our facebook page free of charge. A homemade lunch is provided afterwards before heading back to your ship or to Napier to checkout Art deco buildings. Timewise we like everyone back on board your ship 2 hours before ship departure. All safety and rafting equipment is supplied, just bring Bathers if you wish, a towel and sunscreen.

Deon, his wife and guide all did great in preparing, equipping and feeding everyone on this adventure. The water level was below average for the time if year (end of February), but very enjoyable and informative.

Floating the Mohaka

We were met bright and early at the ship by our leader Deon, an exuberant Kiwi bloke. Our group of 11 traveled in Deon's van for approximately an hour through beautiful New Zealand farm country, eventually transitioning to mountains, to The expedition outpost. We suited up in paddling gear and headed off on a 5 minute drive to the Mohaka River. We split into groups of 6 and put on the river for a 2 hour float trip of gentle class 2 rapids through a lovely limestone and sandstone canyon. After taking out, we headed back to the outpost for a lunch of sandwiches accompanied by two very friendly dogs, a pig and a sheep named Barbara. On the ride back to the ship, Deon offered a stop at a winery and a city tour of the art deco town of Napier. All in all, a very fun 5 hour tour.

Great Float Trip

This was such a fun tour! Easy pick up at the port. We went to Deon’s home and got geared up for our float trip!! Dallas was our guide and he was great!! Gave us information about the area and river. It was amazing!! The lunch Jo provided was delicious!! Every detail was attended to!! Great family business and we are so glad to support them!!! Thank you so much for a fantastic day!!!
