Overview

A day of Epicurean delights, visiting a boutique brewery, travelling through scenic countryside to Rotorua, then up on the gondola to a cellar door with spectacular views and great wine! The tour finishes with a cocktail (or coffee) and dessert at our last venue, overlooking our beautiful harbour. Clients enjoy the diversity of venues and the variety of tastings. A chance to treat your palate! This approximately 6-hour small group tour has a range of great sights to see on the way and the starting time can be adjusted to accommodate variations in ship arrival time.

    The Local Tasting Tour commences by visiting a boutique craft brewery, where the process of producing the natural beer, with no preservatives or additives, is explained & a range of beer is sampled.

    We travel South to Rotorua. This Sate Highway follows the route which was originally a walking track for Maori between Tauranga & Rotorua.

  • Volcanic Hills Winery

    On arrival in Rotorua, we visit Volcanic Hills Winery, to have platters & a wine presentation & tasting. The Tasting Room at this venue sits at the top of the gondola at Skyline, Rotorua. During your visit you will be able to soak up the magnificent view overlooking Rotorua town & lake, while relaxing with a glass of wine & sumptuous platters. This will be an opportunity to sample excellent NZ wine, and to ask questions about NZ wine-styles & terroir.

    We return to Mount Maunganui via a different route, so that clients get a scenic overview of the area. If time permits, a brief stop will be made at a kiwifruit orchard to explain the industry from planting to export.

Paul was great

We thoroughly enjoyed this excursion. Paul was very informative regarding the island and it's history. The brewery was very good, the winery and it's views spectacular and the deserts and cocktails delicious.

Fantastic excursion in Tauranga

What a wonderful day spent with Paul as our guide. Meeting him from our cruise ship was easy, and in a flash we and several other couples were whisked off to explore Taranga and Rotorua. Paul’s love of his homeland shines through, as does his deep knowledge of wine. His quick wit and commentary during our tour made for a delightful outing. Can’t recommend him more enthusiastically.

Tasting the best of Tauranga

Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He showed us around Tauranga before heading to the distillery. However, there are no wineries open close to Tauranga any more so we had to drive to Rotorua. We picked this tour specifically because not a lot of driving was involved. We were not totally disappointed though as we were taken to the tasting room for Volcanic Hills Winery overlooking the Rotorua lake. To get there we had to use a gondola. Once up there we were treated to a tasting of about 5 different wines and an excellent charcuterie board lunch. The stop on the way back for cocktails and afternoon tea was glorious.

Lovely way to see the Tauranga region, super friendly tour operator!

This was a lovely day out and about experiencing some of the sites of Tauranga and Rotorua. We had a small group which was excellent as we were able to get to know Paul and utilise some of his experience in the area and in wines. He was super friendly and accomodating and we felt very welcome. Would definitely recommend it as a nice way to go and see the sites supporting an awesome local operator. My one piece of feedback was to potentially look at getting the van regassed for the aircon or replaced as it was a little hot in the back and maybe wasn't ideal on a hot day to be sweating quite a bit, but I had already flagged this with Paul at the time.

Super wine tasting

Paul was an absolutely wonderful guide. Explanations of what we were seeing were very thorough, understandable, and entertaining as well. His background in the wine business helped explain and clarify several of our wine tastings.
