Overview

Immerse yourself in the rich colonial history of the city, visit local markets, find some of the must-try treat of Santo Domingo, then finish the day with an icy-cold Dominican beer. As we walk, we will visit the Indepence Park, a landmark place celebrating the independence of the Dominican Republic, reaching the ancient city walls from where you will hear about Santo Domingo's rich history, such as how Spanish and Arab immigrants shaped actual city, and how the Dominican Republic and neighboring Haiti have developed a rich business exchange. Walk through Little Haiti and discover the scenic tiny companies that sell Haitian products. Local markets are packed with fruits, vegetables, grains, and spices, and are a lively array of colors and flavors. Learn about Dominican cuisine's most diverse new fruits and vegetables, and local popular religion or Dominican Vodoo. Here we're going to visit Chinatown and attempt some sweet Chinese refreshments that local people enjoy.

Needed this!

Published on Mar, 2024

What a tour! It was awesome. I love traveling that allows me to see more local culture and less American-centered culture. I don’t love tours that cater to American tastes. This wasn’t that! We tried a nice handful of little bites from “in the cut” places that we hadn’t tried before. We visited Chinatown, Little Haiti, zona colonial, and outside the city. I would’ve loved if the tour was a little longer actually! Woulda loved to try a few more things. But overall it was a good time. Even though he clarified that it’s not a history tour, he gave us great history facts. We had done a history tour already so his little tidbits were perfect fillers to what we had already learned. We were with Francis and he was just super nice and was able to answer all our questions. Would recommend!

Went places we wouldn't have gone on our own.

Our guide took us many places we wouldn't have gone on our own, and the food was wonderful. Little light on the history but all in all a very nice tour.

This tour was one of the highlights of our whole Dominican vacation. Our guide Francis was extremely knowledgeable, answered our endless questions, and ensured we had a great time. He made the day so fun and was super accommodating to our needs. I highly recommend!

Great exploration of food, culture and history

The tour was great! Got to have small bites of many local food - pastelitos, mangu (Dominican mashed plantain), pera piña (juice of rice and pineapple), Jalao , mama juanca, and also local presidente beer. We walked around a bit outside of zona colonial, explored market and tasted mango, sour cherries and stinking toe fruit. The guide Francis also gave me about the history of Dominican Republic along the walk. I enjoyed a lot. Highly recommended !

Jose was amazing, great story teller. He certainly knows his history and the entire walk was full of information. We stopped quite a bit to eat and the finally was a very very cold beer. Wonderful trip, highly recommended
