In the midst of the majestic Rocky Mountains, the Country Boy Mine was one of the largest and most famous gold mines in Breckenridge, Colorado. Today, we invite you to visit the Country Boy Mine and enjoy the many activities the mine has to offer. Join us for a mine tour into a real gold mine at this historic restored mining site. While at the mine you can also gold pan, pet the burros, slide down the 55 foot ore chute, explore the authentic mine site, view the exhibits and equipment that were used in the mine and visit the general store. The Country Boy Mine has been offering mine tours for over 20 years. The Country Boy Mine is located 2 miles from downtown Breckenridge in Summit County, Colorado.

We did the mine tour which takes you 1100 feet into the old goldmine. Ryan was our guide and provided a lot of information as well as making the trip fun.

Amazing Memories and Amazing People

I brought my son Connor Spivey (RIP) here in February 2015 and his brother Jonathan on January 16, 2025. Amazing memories and amazing people at Country Boy Mine!!!

Go for the mine tour, stay for everything else!

The mine tour was nice - our guide was informative and patient. But the best part was all the other activities that were available (for Free!). They had a small sled/tube slide with tubes and sleds to borrow - you have to walk back up the hill, but it was a great way to see how our little ones would react to the bigger slides available in the area. I thought the gold panning would be a 1 and done - thinking it would be way to cold to go panning. But they had 2 large stock tanks inside a building with 'mine dirt'. The building was a mini-museum with things kids could play with, there was little fireplace that kept the room warm and the tanks had heaters in them that made the water luke warm. We spent about 1.5 hours panning for gold and found many small minerals - pyrite, quartz, amethyst, copper and maybe a few flecks of gold.

This was a great tour. Interesting to hear about the miners and the history and evolution of the mine. The panning for gold and other gems at the end was fun. My son was sure excited about the treasures he got to take home.

The people who work here really made this experience so wonderful! Everyone was really friendly, great with kids, and so knowledgable. Just genuinely nice people and a really fun experience for my two girls (8 and 10). I saw plenty of adult getting into the gold panning too though. I recommend doing the tour and the gold panning. I also recommend renting boots so that you don't have to worry about wet pants and shoes!
