Overview

Working on clay is like playing music. Sound fades away before you can catch it. We are offering 30 mins casual courses for those who want to experience pottery without the pressure. No experience necessary! After a short demonstration, you will have fun, great, and easy way to relax and be creative. You will shape the item using clay and choose from 12 kinds of Hidenori's original glaze.

Itinerary

We offer a 30-minute pottery wheel experience course typically every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and Sunday. After your pottery session, please relax with a drink of your choice at our café. While there will be additional charges, alcoholic beverages and sweets are also available for order. Even if you're new to pottery, rest assured as our instructor, who has over 30 years of experience teaching pottery in Canada, will provide guidance in both English and Japanese. Rest assured, even if it's your first time. Our staff will guide you throughout the process. Feel free to make as many pieces as you want. At the end of the session, you'll be asked to select one piece. You can choose from four types of original glaze for your creation. Our studio staff will trim the bottom and apply the glaze to the selected piece. Please allow about one month for delivery (shipping fees not included). After the pottery session, relax at our cafe, Tonobacca. You can choose one drink from our original menu (excluding bottled wines, additional 250 yen for alcoholic beverages).

Joy of Ceramics

Our family have visited Otaru for at least three times. Instead of trying music box or glassware hands-on experience, we have picked to see the joy of Japanese ceramics. If you’re reading the most updated Lonely Planet Japan, the authors dedicated three pages on Japanese pottery. And rightly so, it’s meaningful. The teacher, Hide Ebina, is going to let you relax and learn at your own pace. I didn’t do as well as my wife and daughter, but I laughed throughout the hour of pottery class. Go and find out more from the English-speaking and humorous teacher.
