Overview

Journey back in time at the Houmas House Plantation as you take a guided tour of the antebellum mansion, just a short drive from New Orleans, and learn about the old South. Costumed staff bring the period to life as they explain the history of this former sugar plantation, and you have time to walk around the lavish gardens before or after your mansion tour.

  • Houmas House and Gardens

    Guided mansion tours allow guests full access to the Houmas House estate. Dressed in period costumes, interactive tour guides tell the 250 year history of the mansion. Using artifacts, antiques and artwork, guests hear about life on this sugarcane plantation. Restaurants are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner at an additional cost. 38 acres of self-guided gardens are open to all guests who purchase a mansion tour ticket. Allow 2-3 hours to see everything Houmas House has to offer.

Otherworldly experience of revived historic home/grounds

Included lunch had hearty, plentiful selections. Grounds were beautiful and decor inside home period appropriate, unique and fine quality. Our driver Rene kept us entertained. House tour guide missed some details like sculptures of Lincoln on chair soon after worked on Mount Rushmore. Wonderful experience.

This was a magnificent trip! Beautiful house and grounds! Schedule enough time to view in light and dark. The grounds are magical at night. Can’t say enough positive things about this trip. Skip Oak Alley if only doing one or other!

Magical Christmas Anniversary

We visited for our anniversary. Everything was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We ate supper at the Carriage House restaurant. It was very good. Stayed in one of the cottages. It was a lovely room.

The tour & gardens were so worth it and if you are a movie buff, 'Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte' was filmed here which the tour guide pointed out.
