Overview

Embark on a 4-hour whale watching tour. All trips are narrated by a naturalist or marine biologist guide, who will also spend one on one time with guests while on deck. Professional photographers are often sent to capture the spectacular sights seen from on board and are available to offer tips for your own photography.

Itinerary

Meet at Fisherman's Wharf to begin your whale watching experience at 9am. Monterey Bay is considered to be a premier destination for whale watching year round as these animals are often spotted there. Your whale watching trip will be narrated by a marine biologist or naturalist, who will provide you educational and interesting information about marine wildlife. In addition to teaching you about the wildlife, your marine biologists and naturalists will provide information about the natural history of the local area and talk about conservation. While out on the ocean your marine biologists and naturalists will also be collecting sighting data for scientific research. During your trip the crew will show you how to spot whales and dolphins as well as give you advice on how to best capture photos and videos of the wildlife. You will return back to the original departure point between 12:30pm and 1pm.

Great Tour & Great Staff

This review is being written 4 years after our tour lol. We did not have the typical experience on this whale watching tour, but would 100% recommend nonetheless. My boyfriend had a great time, but I got so seasick that I spent the entire time hunched over the side of the boat. The staff was extremely sympathetic, offered ginger and water, and tried to help as best they could. I do remember seeing a good amount of marine life, including whales feeding.

On Nov 19th 2024, we went on the 10am tour with Discovery Whale Watching. It was probably the highlight of our vacation. The crew was superb! I'm terrible at remembering names but they all deserve a lot of credit. They were knowledgeable and engaging and truly made the trip memorable. We saw several whales and were blessed with the opportunity to see a Humpback and her calf feeding on a school of anchovies. These animals are amazing and it truly was an experience we'll never forget. I highly recommend Discovery. You won't be disappointed. They are true professionals

Fantastic trip and saw loads of Humpback Whales out in the Bay as well as Sea Lions, Dolphins and a Shark! Very knowledgeable guide who was happy to answer any questions we had. Definitely worth doing if staying in the area.

Excellent choice for an ocean excursion in Monterey

We saw a whole bunch of humpbacks and some Risso’s dolphins! The crew (Laura, Kenny) and naturalist Sophie were amazing, especially with my two young kids. They knew a lot about the creatures and shared their knowledge with joy. Little ones did get seasick, unfortunately, but these folks were super helpful and understanding. I’d love to go back again and see what else we can spot.
