Hear about Gamla Uppsala kungshögar, among the most powerful in the country, and the place Gamla Uppsala. Much new has emerged in recent years' excavations. Hear about the farms around and its function, about the excavations and finds, dates of the finds and how the people lived at this time. We walk around old Uppsala mounds, and visit old Uppsala church if it is open

  • Gamla Uppsala Kyrka

    Hear about the finds under the old cathedral and its history. Near the church there are various exciting plateaus where Uppsala's large long halls stood during the 500s and 800s and where various exclusive workhouses with gold, silver and all-precious stones in the form of grenades from Sri Lanka were found. If the church is open, we visit the one where we see medieval statues, frescoes from the 15th century, sacrificial log 12th century etc. This was the earliest cathedral in Sweden excluding Danish Lund, and one of the earliest beehive seats in Sweden after Sigtuna, already in the 1130s.

An area rich in history!

We took a day trip from Stockholm, and truly enjoyed seeing a different part of the country. The train ride was lovely, and navigating around the town was easy. The University, Cathedral, and Museum were all very interesting. Walking around the burial mounds in learning more about the history of the area was wonderful
