Just come back from the Algarve, weather has been a bit dull and rather than spend the day in the hotel room we booked a tour with Extremo Ambiente. We were collected from our hotel at 9.00 am by Miguel our guide. He spoke good English and had a great sense of humour. We joined up with two other jeeps and then headed up the mountains on off track roads, beautiful scenery, some hair raising driving along narrow roads and through rivers and lots of stops to looks at wild flowers and herbs. We stopped for coffee in the morning and had a chance to buy herbs and wild tea from a local farmer, we had a lovely lunch of vegetable soup, piri piri chicken, salad and chips and fresh oranges at another café and a coffee/loo break in the afternoon. we visited a honey farm and sampled honey and liquours. Such a full day and so interesting. I was with my teenage kids, husband and elderly parents and they loved it too. Miguel was an absolute star and a brilliant guide who looked after us and really taught us about rural Portugal. A must trip if you are in the area. Can't recommend it enough.
