Overview

A half-day tour to magnificent lake Orta from Stresa, Baveno or Verbania on lake Maggiore! You can choose the morning or the afternoon tour option!  An English-speaking driver will pick you up at your hotel and will drive you to the beautiful village of Orta San Giulio on lake Orta that you will be able to explore on your own, strolling through its narrow cobblestone alleys, century-old buildings and special atmosphere. A stop at the Unesco heritage site - the Sacro Monte, Sacred Mount - is included. You can also enjoy a snack / lunch in one of the little town's cafés and restaurants, before being pick up by your driver. A tour at your own pace!

Itinerary

You will leave Stresa, Baveno or Verbania on lake Maggiore in a private vehicle driven by a professional English-speaking driver. Once in Orta San Giulio the first stop will be the Sacro Monte - the Sacred Mount - of Orta, built on top a hill, where your driver will stop to enable you to stroll around and discover on your own this old Unesco heritage site with painted chapels and terracotta statues dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. Your driver will be waiting for you while you are visiting and will then drive you to the traffic-free area in the heart of Orta San Giulio where you will be able to spend free time in the lovely medieval village. From the main square you may decide ( optional) to buy a boat ticket for the island of San Giulio. On the small but charming island, you can visit on your own the medieval frescoed church and walk along the only path existing on the island, passing old villas and an Abbey. After your free time, between 2pm and 3 pm, the driver will be able to pick you up in the traffic-free area right in the centre of Orta San Giulio to drive you back to Stresa, Baveno or Verbania. GOOD TO KNOW: pick up in Orta San Giulio for your return trip can be decided by you between 2pm and 3 pm.

Great day and Experience

Thoroughly enjoyed our day trip to Orta with Davide. He provided an enjoyable experience, guiding us on our itinerary for the day and recommending some great places for us to stop for food and shopping. A perfect morning in Orta - personal driver from Stresa

Lake Orta and the view of Isola San Giulio are up there with Italy’s must see’s. Staying in Stresa on Lake Maggiore, transport options to Orta San Giulio are limited in October. Blue Taxi was perfect. Davide collected me at my hotel for a three hour morning itinerary. First to Sacro Monte for the chapels and the spectacular view of the lake then he explained how to take the 10 minute walk down to the town, how to get a boat to the island and back and promptly collected me in the main square for the trip back to Stresa. Highly recommended driver service.

We really enjoyed our tour to Lake Orta with Davide. Davide is very personable and we learned so much from him about the Lake Orta area. We also used Davide's services (Davide's Blue Taxi Service) on several other days, and we couldn't have been more pleased. I would highly recommend Davide for any transportation needs if you are in the Milan/Lake Maggiore area. We were a group of four using Davide’s services while visiting the Italian lakes, and we couldn’t have been more pleased! Davide picked us up in Milan and drove us to Stresa on Lake Maggiore. David also picked us up at our Stresa hotel on two other days for tours to Lake Orta, Verbania, and Locarno. In addition he drove us from Stresa to our next stop in Bellagio on Lake Como. He was a very safe driver, which we greatly appreciated. David was so friendly and was very informative about the areas we were visiting. He always pointed out scenic views and offered to stop for us to take pictures when it was possible to do so safely. We really appreciated his flexibility when we had to change our plans due to the weather. We were able to do some other sightseeing within the same time frame we had booked, and David made suggestions as to places we might visit. We all enjoyed getting to know Davide during the four days he drove us. I highly recommend Davide’s Blue Taxi!!
