Express day trip to the Sahara Desert is an unforgettable experience for first-time visitors to Morocco and the Erg Chigaga Dunes. Zagora Erg Chigaga Tour sets out from the desert town of Zagora and includes a thrilling off-road desert safari by 4WD, a camel trek through the dunes, and Sand-Boarding.

Itinerary

    Leave Zagora at 8 am to M’Hamid through Tizi Anagame and Ben Selman. Then you discover the desert by going off-road for 2 hours to reach the big dunes of Chigaga. Lunch is served in nomadic Berber tents after you will have the opportunity to go camel riding in the dunes. In the afternoon, you will get back to Zagora passing by some villages of Draa Valley. On your way back where you will make a stop in the original town of the 16th-century dynasty ( Saadian), Tamgroute, to visit an old Coran library and a subterranean kasbah then continue to Zagora where your tour will conclude around 6 pm.

Experiencing Morocco on the arm of a local to see everything you normally would not.

We arrived rather ill prepared for the desert, so our tour guide took the time before we left to properly stock us with everything we asked for. After that it was smooth sailing. Good English and we really came to places that we never would have ourselves, profiting from all the connections the guide and the driver have. All in all it was very beautiful and if our guide did not know the absolute best views and things to do, he knew someone who did. Would definitely recommend. Also perfect for vegetarians/vegans.

Just do it. Don’t even ponder it.

I only did the one day trip and it was life changing in its own accord. I was hesitant at first, but I’m incredibly thankful that I went ahead with this. Trust this random internet stranger and see the Sahara. There’s an infinite world of beauty in tiny grains of sand across the dunes. Rashid our guide was incredibly funny, helpful, and accommodating. He’s a treasure.
