Overview

Look for whales, dolphins and seabirds in the pristine waters of Hauraki Gulf just a short boat ride from Auckland city's Viaduct Harbour. Learn from experts on board working to protect these precious creatures and their fragile home.  As an active marine-mammal research vessel every passenger contributes to important conservation efforts, just by coming on board. A dollar from every ticket purchased goes towards the Hauraki Gulf Guardians fund which supports organisations and programs that aim to regenerate the Hauraki Gulf and ensure its future.

Meeting points

Our boat is at Berth 9, Eastern Viaduct Marina, accessed from the end of Quay Street heading West. This is opposite the Maritime Museum. On arrival look for our crew at the top of our boarding ramp to check in 30 minutes before departure (check-in closes 15 minutes prior to trip time).

Fabulous trip with a great crew

Fantastic crew on a great boat hoping to see whales and dolphins. Large comfortable boat and the crew were great and so knowledgeable. We saw lots of dolphins- at 2 different times - they swam with the boat and were so close. It was quite magical. Unfortunately did not see a whale but that did not diminish the great day we had.

It took a long time to find whales but the crew were dedicated and relentless. We had the privilege of seeing a mother and baby whale plus dolphins!

This tour was absolutely incredible! The boat was smooth and had wonderful, clean amenities and even a little snack bar with drinks and food. The crew was extremely knowledgeable, giving us so much information about the wildlife and all of the scientific facts. We saw hundreds of dolphins and I think six whales. It was really beautiful. I get seasickness, but on this boat, it was really calm and stable and I didn’t have any problems. This is probably the best boat tour I’ve ever been on in my life and I’ve been on quite a few. Thanks for a great time!

Amazing. The crew we're excellant and had great knowledge and where happy to answer any questions. The front of the boat is best for view's but be warned it does get windy and you will get wet. But it's so worth it. And part of the fun. We we're very luckly to see a Whale and lots of playful Dolphins. Along with several different bird species. The trip was brillant. All in All a great day out.
