Overview

Segway Station was set up to bring the Segway tour experience to Nicosia. It is located at the corner of Aeschylou Street and a small, quaint walking street which includes a coffee shop, a bar and various craft shops. At Segway Station you can find a relaxing cafe/lounge area where you can chill out before and after your tour.  On your Segway Tour we will show you Old Nicosia as you have never seen it before. Magnificent architecture, traditional alleys and workshops, the haunting green line, and nooks and crannies known only to locals. We will look at Old Nicosia while riding the Segways, which are zero-emission, environmentally friendly, noiseless electric personal transporters that enable you to take in over 2 hours, sights that could otherwise take one or two days to see, under the hot sun. We will be making brief stops at each landmark to allow for deeper appreciation of the sights, as well as photo opportunities.

Itinerary

Duration: 3 Hours The tour starts with a comprehensive Segway Training. The tour includes a refreshment and snack break in the middle.  Landmarks Include: -The Archbishop’s Palace and Cathedral The Archbishops might have lived and travelled in comfort, but a Segway is more fun! The Palace was built by Archbishop Makarios the third, and is a testament to the struggle for independence.  -Ethnological Museum, (The House of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios) Here we will see one of the finest relics of ancient urban architecture, which survived the Ottoman Empire. This building is a true testament to the city’s ancient grandeur. -Nicosia Checkpoint on Ledra Street, on the Green Line This checkpoint is an outcome of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus on 20 July 1974. Prior to the opening of the checkpoint there was a barricade running through the street, converted to a checkpoint in April 2008, which then became the sixth crossing which connects the 2 sides. -Eleftheria Square and Town Hall Eleftheria Square (Freedom Square) intersects all the main shopping streets of Nicosia, such as Ledra and Onassagorou. -Hamam Omerye (Turkish baths) Sometimes the traditional way of doing things is best. The Hamam was built in 1570 and is still in use today, as is Omeriye Mosque. It’s a great place for relaxation and in 2006 it received the Europa Nostra prize for the Conservation of Architectural Heritage. -Contemporary Art Museum. The museum is situated at the Old Electric House building, but it looks brand new. Some of the finest contemporary art comes to life as you ride your own technological marvel. -Famagusta Gate This is the largest of all the city’s gates. It was built in 1567 by the Venetians, and served travellers entering and leaving the city from the east. It now plays host to art exhibitions and events.  -Ancient Aquaduct, Venetian Walls and Liberty monument The Liberty monument was erected in 1973 to commemorate the release of freedom fighters in 1959. Best way to see Nicosia old city

Surely the best way to take in all the main sites of Nicosia for those with limited time. The Segways are quick and easy to master (no previous experience needed) and our guide Andreas was patient and knowledgeable about the city. It was great to get his insights as one who had grown up during the troubles of 1974 and thereafter. He took us places that would have taken 3 days walking round with a guidebook or app. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Segway tour of Nicosia

Andreas was our instructor and guide, very friendly and warm. The experience was brilliant and the segways allowed us to explore more of Nicosia than just by walking with the added bonus of a knowledgeable local to point out the highlights and history. He took a number of photos which he will send on to us.

MUST DO for a short visit of Nicosia

We had only a short time to spend in Nicosia, so we were looking for a way to quickly see all the highlights. Adreas not only showed us those highlights (as well as some typical/unique local spots and artists), but also explained a lot elaborating on the history behind them. Andreas makes sure you enjoy your time on the segway and will make plenty of stops for a quick foto.

We had a great and memorable tour with Andros. Andros was patient as we learned how to ride then we were off exploring the city. The tour was fun, easy once your confidence grew and very informative. We highly recommend this tour to all.
