Learn about the historical context that inspired the series, including the real events of the Jacobite rebellion and how they influenced the characters and plots of "Outlander." Feel the romance of the Old Town's cobbled streets, visit the real-life settings that doubled for places like Alexander Malcolm’s Printshop, and hear tales of love, loyalty, and bravery that echo through the ages.

What To Expect

1. Royal Mile Our meeting point is where we will introduce ourselves to you and explain the ins and outs of the tour. 10 minutes

2. Mercat Cross We start our tour in earnest by talking about the history of Edinburgh and what this landmark means to the city and its traditions. 10 minutes

3. Stopping at the historic sight of the old seat of power in Edinburgh, we recap Scottish history and the events that set the stage for the Jacobite uprisings. 10 minutes

4. Bakehouse Close Home to Alexander Malcolm's Printhouse. We enter one of the more secluded parts of Edinburgh and talk about the weapons and armaments of the Jacobite soldiers. 25 minutes

5. Visiting another hidden corner of Edinburgh, we talk about one of the most mischievous characters in Edinburgh's history, Deacon Brodie. 15 minutes

6. Palace of Holyroodhouse We end our tour outside this stunning palace in Edinburgh's Old Town. Here we will discuss the Jacobite court and the Scottish Parliament. 15 minutes

7. Canongate Kirk We enter this historic graveyard in Edinburgh, visiting the resting places of some of the most important figures of the Jacobite uprisings. 15 minutes
