Overview

Voted the greatest figure in British history, this walking tour explores the life of Winston Churchill and discovers the true extent of the damage and destruction of London during World War 2. You’ll visit many of Churchill’s iconic landmarks including his home at Downing Street, the Ministry of Defence, and the Houses of Parliament where many of his most crucial decisions were made. Along the way, you’ll see the most famous Churchill statue in Parliament Square, St Margaret’s Church where he married his beloved Clementine in 1908, and Churchill’s favorite London pub. You’ll hear stories of bravery and courage in the Battle of Britain, see remaining bomb damage at Westminster Hall, get up close to the Cenotaph memorial dedicated to our fallen heroes, and discover the crucial role that women played in victory at the Women of World War 2 memorial. Finish your tour outside the Churchill War Rooms, the preserved underground bunker from which Churchill plotted Britain’s victory.

Meeting Point

The tour starts at Embankment Station (Embankment Pier Exit). This is the side located nearest the river. On arrival please look for your tour guide holding the yellow umbrella.

2. 10 Downing Street See Downing Street - home of Churchill and Britain's Prime Ministers

3. Winston Churchill Statue Get up close to Winston Churchill's statue and hear the story of Britain's greatest leader.

4. Battle of Britain Monument Hear stories of bravery and courage of Britain's most courageous soldiers at the Battle of Britain Memorial.

5. Houses of Parliament See the remains of Britain's bomb damage during the war and discover where Churchill made many of his most crucial decisions in Parliament.

6. Women of World War II Memorial Discover the important role that women played during Britain's victory in World War 2.

7. Cenotaph Get up close to the Cenotaph dedicated to Britain's fallen heroes.

8. HM Treasury See the Treasury building and the role Churchill played in his position as Chancellor of the Exchequer.

9. Saint Margaret's Church on Parliament Square See St Margaret's Church where Winston Churchill married his beloved wife Clementine.

10. See Britain's Ministry of Defence
